#### Optional Relationship Labels (v\<MERMAID_RELEASE_VERSION>+)
The relationship label in ER diagrams is optional. You can define relationships without specifying a label, and the diagram will render correctly.
For example, the following is valid:
```mermaid-example
erDiagram
BOOK }|..|{ AUTHOR
BOOK }|..|{ GENRE
AUTHOR }|..|{ GENRE
```
```mermaid
erDiagram
BOOK }|..|{ AUTHOR
BOOK }|..|{ GENRE
AUTHOR }|..|{ GENRE
```
This will show the relationships between the entities without any labels on the connecting lines.
You can still add a label if you want to describe the relationship:
```mermaid-example
erDiagram
BOOK }|..|{ AUTHOR : written_by
BOOK }|..|{ GENRE : categorized_as
AUTHOR }|..|{ GENRE : specializes_in
```
```mermaid
erDiagram
BOOK }|..|{ AUTHOR : written_by
BOOK }|..|{ GENRE : categorized_as
AUTHOR }|..|{ GENRE : specializes_in
```
### Relationship Syntax
The `relationship` part of each statement can be broken down into three sub-components:

The following half-arrow types are supported for more expressive sequence diagrams. Both solid and dotted variants are available by increasing the number of dashes (`-` → `--`).

## Central Connections (v\<MERMAID_RELEASE_VERSION>+)
Mermaid sequence diagrams support **central lifeline connections** using a `()`.
This is useful to represent messages or signals that connect to a central point, rather than from one actor directly to another.
To indicate a central connection, append `()` to the arrow syntax.
#### Basic Syntax
```mermaid-example
sequenceDiagram
participant Alice
participant John
Alice->>()John: Hello John
Alice()->>John: How are you?
John()->>()Alice: Great!
```
```mermaid
sequenceDiagram
participant Alice
participant John
Alice->>()John: Hello John
Alice()->>John: How are you?
John()->>()Alice: Great!
```
## Activations
It is possible to activate and deactivate an actor. (de)activation can be dedicated declarations:

* FCoSE Layout Algorithm for Architecture Diagrams
*
* This module provides a layout algorithm implementation using the
* cytoscape-fcose algorithm for positioning nodes and edges in architecture

* - Spatial maps for relative positioning
* - Group alignments for organizing related services
* - XY edges with 90-degree bends
* - Complex edge routing
*
* The algorithm follows the unified rendering pattern and can be used
* by architecture diagrams that provide compatible LayoutData with

#### Optional Relationship Labels (v<MERMAID_RELEASE_VERSION>+)
The relationship label in ER diagrams is optional. You can define relationships without specifying a label, and the diagram will render correctly.
For example, the following is valid:
```mermaid-example
erDiagram
BOOK }|..|{ AUTHOR
BOOK }|..|{ GENRE
AUTHOR }|..|{ GENRE
```
This will show the relationships between the entities without any labels on the connecting lines.
You can still add a label if you want to describe the relationship:
```mermaid-example
erDiagram
BOOK }|..|{ AUTHOR : written_by
BOOK }|..|{ GENRE : categorized_as
AUTHOR }|..|{ GENRE : specializes_in
```
### Relationship Syntax
The `relationship` part of each statement can be broken down into three sub-components:

The following half-arrow types are supported for more expressive sequence diagrams. Both solid and dotted variants are available by increasing the number of dashes (`-` → `--`).

## Central Connections (v<MERMAID_RELEASE_VERSION>+)
Mermaid sequence diagrams support **central lifeline connections** using a `()`.
This is useful to represent messages or signals that connect to a central point, rather than from one actor directly to another.
To indicate a central connection, append `()` to the arrow syntax.
#### Basic Syntax
```mermaid-example
sequenceDiagram
participant Alice
participant John
Alice->>()John: Hello John
Alice()->>John: How are you?
John()->>()Alice: Great!
```
## Activations
It is possible to activate and deactivate an actor. (de)activation can be dedicated declarations:
